New forms of worker management based on Artificial Intelligence and their implications for OSH
The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) organised the virtual workshop “New forms of worker management based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and their implications for occupational safety and health (OSH)” on the 4th of November 2021.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies have given rise to new forms of managing workers. AI-based management systems refer to new tools that collect real-time data about workers’ behaviours from various sources and take automated or semi-automated decisions based on algorithms. These new worker management systems are increasingly growing in multiple sectors.
The workshop’s objective was to present and discuss EU-OSHA’s research on these new forms of management and their implications for OSH. Based on the research conducted, a review of definitions, policies, strategies, and OSH effects associated with AI-based management systems was presented. Gaps, needs, priorities for research, and best practices were also discussed with experts and policy-makers at the EU and Member State level.
