The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented changes to our society, affecting how we live, work, and interact. To respond quickly to the health, social and economic emergencies and protect its citizens and businesses, the European Union relied on its specialised Agencies’ scientific knowledge and advice.
In this context, the EU Agencies Network on Scientific Advice (EU-ANSA) published “Learning from the COVID-19 experience: Strengthening EU-ANSA Agencies’ cooperation and preparedness to support evidence-based policymaking in times of crisis”. Based on a survey of agencies’ COVID-19 related activities, this joint report analyses the challenges of producing risk assessments and scientific advice under time pressure and amidst uncertainty to support evidence-based policymaking.
It also includes examples that showcase how EU agencies joined forces and worked collaboratively to support the European Commission, the EU Member States, and many stakeholders in responding to the pandemic.
